Frieda is a self-taught fibre artist and maker specialising in luxury, bespoke fibre work and handcrafted jewellery. From her home studio in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Frieda uses a mix of weaving, embroidery, punch needle and tufting to create contemporary, tactile work.
With a focus on colour and shape, Frieda draws design inspiration from the everyday, encouraging viewers of her work to interpret the lines and texture work in their own way.
Frieda began weaving in 2017, as a means of finding peace during a tumultuous time in her life. Formatively, her pieces were influenced by a desire to find healing through creativity. With a focus on sharing the meditative aspects of her practice, she has facilitated community projects, meet-ups and workshops since 2019.

I actively use the sharing of my practice and my work as an opportunity to talk about important social issues. I regularly engage with others about difficult and important themes like sexual assault, and hope that I can offer understanding, and the ability to heal through my creative and participatory practice.
