As an artist I was paired with the teacher for P5, Mr McGlynn, together devising a weaving lesson intended to teach the value of resilience skills and patience.
Over the course of a day, I worked with the class of students to make a loom, warp a loom, and create a small woven textile piece. I encouraged them to try things out, allowing them to make mistakes in order for them to problem solve creatively. I talked to the class about colours and textures, and how colours can be linked to feelings and emotions.
I supported, encouraged and tutored them through what was in some cases a frustrating and difficult task, in order to produce their own small weaving.
